The ACCESS HOUSING UNIT is an innovative project funded by the Homeless Agency and managed and operated by Threshold.
It works as a specialised accommodation agency to assist people living in temporary or emergency accommodation, or those at risk of homelessness to find and sustain private rented accommodation under Rent Supplement or the Rental Accommodation Scheme.
We offer ongoing support and information on all aspects of tenants and landlords rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies Act 2004.
Universal to all our clients is the inclusion of ongoing post-settlement support which supports someone once they have new accommodation.
This gives people an oppurtunity to integrate with the local community and have the necessary support to help access local services, resolve budgeting problems, explore child care options and generally enable a person to take an active role in society.
What does the Access Housing Unit do?
- Recruit landlords and tenants to become involved in the Unit
- Maintain a database so that appropriate tenant-landlord matches can be made
- Accompany tenants to view properties
- Where a tenancy is to be created, ensure that contracts are signed (if required), that any special conditions are understood and that issues around the payment of deposits and rents are clear.
- Ensure support structures are in place for both the landlord and the tenant to ensure that the tenancy is sustained.
- Compile an inventory and keep it on file. Photograph and document the condition of the property prior to the tenant moving in.
