About Us
The unit works on a self referral basis, clients refer to us and are then assessed. We contact landlords to source appropriate accommodation.
Every client is assessed to ensure they understand the responsibilities associated with private renting. Only people who have been assessed as responsible and capable of maintaining a private rented home will be placed on the Unit’s database.
The Unit uses various criteria-including location, accommodation size and type etc.-to match suitable tenants with the most appropriate landlord. Of course, the final decision to rent to an individual is made by the landlord.
Once a tenancy has been agreed, all tenants are visited regularly to ensure they continue to comply with their conditions of tenancy.
What does the Access Housing Unit do?
- Recruit landlords and tenants to become involved in the Unit
- Maintain a database so that appropriate tenant-landlord matches can be made
- Accompany tenants to view properties
- Where a tenancy is to be created, ensure that contracts are signed (if required), that any special conditions are understood and that issues around the payment of deposits and rents are clear.
- Ensure support structures are in place for both the landlord and the tenant to ensure that the tenancy is sustained.
- Compile an inventory and keep it on file. Photograph and document the condition of the property prior to the tenant moving in.
